What Size Should Your Images Be on Facebook?

The first thing that visitors to your Facebook page see is the cover image at the top.  Make it look good.

This means:

1. uploading an attractive and relevant picture

2. making sure that the picture is the right size and dimension

Mike and Carl, from The Marketing Animals, have a handy template (which you can download here)  with the sizes and dimensions of the cover image, profile picture and tab apps, that you can you use as guidelines.

Cover Photo:

For best results, Facebook recommends uploading a photo that is 851 x 315 pixels and less than 100 KB. They also recommend that the image is RGB color and in JPG format.

Profile Picture:

Once your cover photo is in place you want to make sure to have a nice profile picture to go with it. That’s the one in the little box to the left, also known as your avatar.

Facebook requires that the profile image image is at least 180 x 180 pixels even though it only actually displays at 160 x 160 pixels.

If your profile picture is intended to be a part of the cover image then you should be aware that it’s located 22 px from the left and 92 px from the top.

App Tab Image:

The app tabs are those boxes located under the cover image, to the right. When you create a new Facebook page it will automatically come with a tab where your pictures will be stored and another that displays your page’s Likes. There will also be several blank tabs to which you can add videos, events and notes.

If you want to add more tabs, maybe to send visitors to your website or to bring up a subscription form, you’ll need to add custom tabs.  This can be done by logging in as a Facebook Developer and following the instructions provided or by using an app like Shortstack.

When you create a new tab you’ll have a grey square to which you can upload a new thumbnail image. An attractive Facebook page usually has individually designed tabs that match the rest of the page so I would recommend putting some thought into your tabs’ design. The image size should be 111 x 74 px.

Margelit’s Video Editing Guide for The Perplexed

Waaaaaay back in the day, I wrote a post called  How To Edit Video: an 8-Point Style Guide. I recently discovered (many thanks to Reputation Rhino) that this post has since been mentioned on the Image Media Partner’s blog where they discuss in  depth some of the tips that I provided in my article:

“The other day I was reading Margelit Hoffman’s blog on ‘How To Edit Video: an 8-Point Style Guide.’ Margelit makes some very good points that cover some of the basic concepts of editing video for the beginner….”

It’s a very good article and you can read the rest of it here.
Thanks y’all!  It always makes me feel special.  🙂
